Scotland

A Beautiful and Wonderful Country

I'll tell you of a little of trip to Scotland, it is a pretty interesting Country, their culture is completely different than ours, but maybe not a lot different from other places in Europe, especially Great Britain or the United Kingdom. Let me explain a little bit of this Celtic Land; people always think of Scotland when they hear about the Monster of the Loch Ness...right !!! , and the "kilt" (the Scotland skirt) is worn .."without anything underneath"!!! and in very special activities, like weddings, football games, rugby...etc. Actually it is a very important country, because they produce the best whiskey in the world. And don't forget their famous Scottish pipe. Scotland with 81.610 km2 is divided in two parts: the Highlands and the Lowlands, with a population of more than five million people , also they have their important cities: Edinburgh (the capital of Scotland) and Glasgow, in fact this is the biggest city of country and is home to over a fifth of Scotland's population. Scotland has three officially recognized languages: English, Scots and Scottish Gaelic. Almost all Scots speak Scottish Standard English, and some Scotish are fluent in "Scots". And Gaelic is mostly spoken in the western Isles. Let me tell you more about their culture; like music and Scottish literature. Scottish music is a significant aspect, for example a traditional Scottish instrument is the Great Highland Bagpipe, a wind instrument consisting of three drones and a melody pipe (called the chanter), and the clársach and the fiddle, are also traditional Scottish instruments. And Scottish literature includes text written in English, Scottish Gaelic, Scots, french and Latin, there are many famous writers, like J.M Barrie, who brought elements of fantasy and folklore back in to fashion. And until I got there, i did not know their flag and country Hymn, but now I know a little bit more than before, the flag of Scotland, is known as the Saltire or St. Andrews cross, from 9th century. The Saltire now also forms part of the design of the union flag; the 1320 statement of political independence, the declaration of Arbroath, the textile pattern tartan that often signifies a particular Scottish clan. And their Hymn (country's song) is called Flower of Scotland , and is always played in special events of football or rugby matches involving the Scotland national team. Scotland weather is kind of fresh because of the latitude; their winter season is really cold but their summertime is really fresh. And if somebody wants to visit there, I recommend the nice season of the month of May and September.

Motto:
"Nemo me impune lacessit" (Latin)
"No one prokes me with impunity"
"Cha togar m'fhearg gun dioladh" (scottish Gaelic)
"Wha daur meddle wi me?" (scots)
